So before you start running you got to mentally prepare yourself. You got get your head space right.  At the beginning running can be very tough both mentally and physically, so it's important to have a strong foundation and strong motivation, that will keep you lacing up those trainers each day.


Its the motivation and foundation that will get you through the first 3-4 months and after this you will love running so much you won't want to take your trainers off as you will be hooked.

Now there are many reasons to start to run, and running can provide so many benefits. The main motivation behind many people wanting to start is normally to support weight loss or get back in shape. We all know exercise burns calories and with simple maths if you burn more calories than you consume you will lose wait.

  • Running can give you a sharper brain and lower your chance of developing Alzheimer’s in later life


  • Running can actually strengthen your joints instead of deteriorate and large studies have shown runners actually have a lower chance of developing osteoarthritis.·        


  • Runners normally have a lower risk of diabetes as a runners body is better at regulating  blood sugar and warding off type 2 diabetes.·        


  • Runners usually have a stronger cardiovascular system and a lower risk of dying of heart diseas     


  • Runners also have less chance of developing or dying of cancer. Exercising regularly can reduce the risk of many types of cancer. 


  • Running helps slowdown the aging process. Not only do runners often live longer, they also tend to spend their later years in better health.


Whatever your motivation for starting running be it a new hobby, weight loss, health benefits, getting in shape, sharpening your mind. Underline that motivation in your head, and make sure you can focus on that goal or objective, each day to enable you to run consistently.

Sometime you have to dig deep, when its raining or snowing or cold to get up and get out the door and the motivation will underpin your thought process on those tougher days and keep you going.
